Phoebe Marshall was baptised on 9th February 1783 at Luton in Bedfordshire, daughter of Elizabeth Marshall, late Mardell, formerly Arnold, and her husband John Marshall. The family lived at Chiltern Green, a hamlet on the eastern edge of the parish, removed from the town itself.

Phoebe died as a young woman of 19, having suffered from fever and decline.
