Children
An Indian raid in possibly 1778 - Grandfather Bickerstaff murdered, 3 Doddridge girls kidnapped and taken to Detroit along with other kidnapped children David Pursley, aged seven, and Susan Potts, aged fourteen.
- Sabra DODDRIDGE the oldest, was sold at Detroit by her captors to a French officer, who later married her and took her to France. She never returned to
America, and it is doubtful if she ever again heard from her people; but she became a Lady of France before her death years later.
- Nancy DODDRIDGE second oldest, was kicked in the side by a drunken Indian. She never recovered from this injury, and died among the Indians a few years later.
- Rachel DODDRIDGE raised by her captors, said to have married a Delaware chief, thought to be White Eyes. went with a band of Indians to Wellsburg, West
Virginia, where she met her cousin, Phillip Doddridge, a son of John Doddridge. He recognized her but she refused to go home with him. (family legend)
- John DODDRIDGE (no information on what happened to him, yet a second child was named John indicating that the first John died or was kidnapped.
- Hannah DODDRIDGE b: 1778 infant when raid occured. one story says she was with her mother away from the home
