Death of Dr. P. G. Capper

It is with regret we chronicle the death of our friend and soldier, Dr. P. G. Capper, who died July 27, 1897, of that dreaded disease consumption. Mr. Capper had been a sufferer for the past two years and came near dying a little more than a year ago from hemorrhage of the lungs, but rallied. He suffered great pain in his last illness, but through it all he never forgot his blessed Savior whom he trusted until the death angel wafted his spirit to its eternal home.

He was born in Carroll County January 1, 1839, and died July 27, 1897, being 58 years, 6 months, 26 days old. He was married to Emily Crumrine September 20, 1866. To this union were born six sons and six daughters, all of whom with the widow survive him. He was a kind, affectionate and industrious husband and father. He was one of 12 brothers and 2 sisters, eight having preceded him to the grave. Dr. Capper with eight brothers served in the late war. He enlisted at Perrysville, Ohio, September 2, 1861, in Co. D 80th O. V. I., and received his honorable discharge at Columbus, Ohio, August 31, 1865, being out in the defense of his country four years lacking 2 days. He was in many hard fought battles, was once captured but escaped in two hours after and received a flesh wound. His remains were interred in the U. B. Cemetery of this place July 30, 1897, followed by a large concourse of friends. He was a member of the Christian Union church until it disbanded when he joined the U. B. church of this place. The family has the deep sympathy of their many friends in this their great loss. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."
