Facts and Events
As per Linda Swans letter dated Aug. 28, 2000 - "He worked at Leith docks as a coal trimmer and in his early youth, aged about 14 years, stowed away on a boat leaving the port of Leith bound initially for Holland or somewhere similar. He thought he'd be back in a few months time, but in these days, as still happens todya, merchant ships sailed to one port - unloaded their cargo and took on another cargo for somewhere else. In all he was away for 7 years and his journies had taken him to China, up the Yangste River, fighting river pirates aand all over. So perhaps Jemima didn't see much of him." References
