[p 10]State of Kentucky County of BourbonOn this day Personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid Hannah Lanter a resident of the County of Bourbon State of Kentucky aged seventy-three years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7th 1838 entitled an act granting half pay and Pensions to certain Widows. That she is the widow of the late Peter Lanter who was a Soldier in the Virginia line during the war of the Revolution and she has been informed by him and others that he was both in the regular and Militia service and was in the service during the said war at least five years she well recollects of seeing his discharge since his death among his old papers but does not recollect by whom it was signed it has been since lost or destroyed as it was considered of no value. She has often heard him speak of the officers under whom he served but at this great length of time she has forgotten their names but she is under the impression he served under Captain Joseph Spencer he was living in Orange County Virginia at the time he entered the service and also at the time our marriage took place she refers to the revolutionary records for evidence of the service of her husband the aforesaid Peter Lanter and she further declares that to the best of her recollection she was married to the said Peter Lanter in the Summer of 1785 she has no family record and she is informed and believes that there is no record of as ancient date as her marriage in the County where she was married but well knows that her oldest daughter is upwards of 50 years of age and that she was married to the afford Peter Lanter sometime prior to her birth and her husband the aforesaid Peter Lanter died on the 14th day of August 1811 and she has remained a widow ever since his death that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service but the marriage took place previous to the first day of January 1794 viz. at the time above stated and she prays that the best evidence that can be produced in her case may be received and a Pension granted to her a [word too faint to discern] Widow of a soldier of the revolution.
