Facts and Events
Parentage
Some researchers have placed Peter Davis as a son of William Davis (1750-1822) of Walkers Creek, Giles County, Virginia, but Peter is NOT named in deeds in Giles County as William's son. Also, if this Peter was born as early as 1765, William Davis would have only been 15 years old when Peter was born, making this problematic in Colonial Virginia. Additional research is necessary to determine his parentage.
In following naming trends of this era - it would make sense that Peter's father may have been named John Davis. The John Davis (b. about 1748) of Greenbrier Co. VA who married Jane / Jean Clendenin may have been a brother, as they had many common factors (John Stuart witnessed documents for both). This John Davis is on the 1786 Tax list for Greenbrier Co., VA. On the 1820 census for Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., VA there are other DAVIS men (head of household) with our Davis family names who lived nearby: William (also an older brother?), Samuel, and Richard.
