He served in the military, enlisting on January 1, 1862 in Ripon, Fon du Lac Co, Wisconsin. Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers, War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865. He was a Corporal in the 18th Wisconsin Infantry, Company H, was wounded at the Battle of Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh) in April 1862, and was discharged on Aug 20, 1862, with a disability. He was living with his uncle, William Orrin Gunn, at the time of his enlistment. After his discharge, he moved to Michigan.

Died of Brights Disease of the kidneys.

Charlotte Elizabeth Harris died of breast cancer. Born 22 Jan 1844 in England; died 25 Nov 1910. Perry and Charlotte are buried in Woodlawn cemetery in Vermontville.
