(Simon, Curtis C., 72, died at McCray Hospital last Friday. He was born in Swan September 14, 1874 to Christopher and Lois Simon. A brakeman on the E. J. and E. Railroad, he lived in Chicago until he retired in 1941 and came to the home of his sister, Mrs. K. A. Miller of Kendallville. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Walter Schauweker and Miss Jane Simon of this city; a son, Chris of Kendallville; three sisters and a brother; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One son, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Services were Monday at A. J. Berhalter Funeral Home in Kendallville. Burial, Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville. ~ 5-29-1947.)

(Simon, Daisy B., 81, who was chief operator at the telephone office for approximately 30 years before retiring, died Monday in her home, 237 S. Main St., a victim of a heart ailment. She was born October 12, 1878, at Albion, the daughter of Frank and Blanche McMahan Cook, and had resided in this community 55 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Chris, of Kendallville; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Pearl) Schauweker and Mrs. John (Jane) Hossinger of Kendallville; a sister, Mrs. Nell Rickard of Rome City; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services this afternoon at the L. E. Berhalter & Son Funeral Home. Burial, Avilla Cemetery. ~ 9-22-1960.)

Avilla: Pearl D. Schauweker, 87, died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday at McCray Memorial Hospital, Kendallville. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Walter, died in 1976. Surviving are three daughters, Sally Sibert of Avilla, Sandra Bender of Kendallville and Patricia Bailey of Plainfield; two sons, Walter of Tucson, Ariz., and Jack of Houston; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Hossinger of Kendallville. Services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla. Calling from 2 to 9 p.m. today with American Legion Post No. 240 Ladies Auxiliary memorial services at 7 p.m. and Eastern Star services at 7:30 p.m. Burial in Avilla Cemetery. ~ Ft. On June 14, 1923, she married Walter A. Schauweker, who died in 1976. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker, a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Avilla American Legion Post 240 Ladies Auxiliary, OES and past worthy matron, and was a volunteer for many years for the American Red Cross blood bank. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Sally) Sibert of Avilla, Mrs. Ralph (Sandra) Bender of Kendallville, and Patricia Bailey of Plainfield; 2 sons, Walter of Tucson, Ariz., and Jack of Houston, Texas; a sister, Jane Hossinger of Kendallville; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
