Patrick Havey was born 1815 in County Rosommon, in Ireland.S1 Family tradition places his birth near Athlone. This would make sense, since his wife's family is connected to Rahara, only twelve miles from Athlone. According to family tradition, his mother was a Fitzgerald, a descendant of the “Geraldines.” He came to the United States about 1840. He settled in Newark, Essex County, N.J. and was a farmer. He was naturalized in Essex County, New Jersey on 1 November 1847. He went to California, travelling by ship via the Isthmus of Panama, in 1853. He was in Yuba County by 14 July 1867, when he registered to vote. He was in Rose's Bar by 1870. According to the 1870 census, he could not write English. He died 1 January of 1880.
