In 1861 Patrick’s brother in law, William Smith made a will, witnessed by Patrick Adair Smith, merchant (M. Jackson). In 1851 Patrick A. Black (b. 1840) lived with his parents (census). In 1861 Patrick A. Black (b. 1840 Glasgow), merchant, was a visitor at Auchentoshan House, Old Kilpatrick, with John MacIndoe (b. 1823 Churnside, Berwickshire); in ancestry.com the name is spelt Mocindoe (census); John was presumably Patrick’s brother in law. In 1871 Patrick A. Black (b. 1840 Glasgow), commission merchant, was at 8 Burnbank Terrace) (census).
