Facts and Events
" Oliver, son of Stokeley and Ann, lived in Caroline where he was lieutenant of a troop of horse in 1742. July 12, 1745, "Richard Taliaferro and Oliver Towles, gents, trustees of Port Royal", filed the plat (map or plan) of that town (Port Royal is now in South Carolina). October 2, 1751, Stokeley Towles "of Culpepper," made a deed of gift of the old plantation in Middlesex to Oliver. March 9, 1758, his nephew Oliver (apparently son of his brother John), called "Oliver Jr." prior to 1770, entered into articles with Obediah Merriott (to study law?) and Oliver, Sr. was surety. The remaining records of Caroline show that the latter resided there until May,1770, when he died in Spotslvania County. ... nothing found suggests that he left issue. The "Mary Gillison, now Towles" witness to the will of John Roy of Carolina on October 10, 1734, was probably his wife."
