Subj: Family of Joseph Cummins Date: 8/10/99 7:56:40 PM Central Daylight Time From: Tragiccmic To: Chascum Dear Charlie, My AOL post automatically showed up in your newsletter but I wanted to include more info so here it is. Joseph Cummins was born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, in 1760. He enlisted in April, 1782, in the Rhode Island Continental Company to serve for nine months. He was then 22 years of age, 5' 3" in height, with dark hair and a fresh complexion. His occupation was a laborer. He was discharged March 1st, 1783 and a pension was granted him on April 30th, 1818. He died in Pomfret township, Vermont on November 10th, 1842, and the pension was continued to his widow. (This info came from a book on the history of Windsor County, Vermont). I believe that his wife's name may have been Olive. Linden (Joseph's son) Cummins was most likely born in Vermont and was married to Maria Wilkerson. In 1823 they left Vermont and came to New York with their son Henry. Henry was born in Vermont on February 23, 1816. In 1836 the family moved to the Western part of Ohio and Linden remained there for about 15 years before moving on to Indiana. Henry married Matilda Kilborn in 1838. Matilda was born on November 17, 1814 and died on February 10, 1881. Henry and Matilda settled in Circleville, Ohio and eventually moved on to Allen County, Indiana. They had eight children. Mary Annie: Born July 16, 1839 (possibly in Brown County, Ohio) and married Ambrose Ashton. Joseph D.: Born on May 12, 1841 in Brown County, Ohio. Married Orsia Daniels on April 20, 1873. Isabel: Born on March 29, 1843. William F.: Born on November 29, 1844. Richard A.: Born on April 27, 1847, died 1875. Robert M.: Born August 13, 1849. Estella: Born July 6, 1852. Charles E.: Born December 6, 1854. If anyone has information on this family please email me. |
