JOSEPH CUMMINS
He was born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, where he enlisted in April 1782, in
the Rhode Island Continental Company to serve for nine months. He was then
twenty two years of age, five feet, three inches in height, with dark hair
and a fresh complexion, by occupation a laborer. Joseph was discharged on
March 1, 1783. A pension was granted him on April 30, 1818. He died in
Pomfret township, Windsor Co., VT on November 10, 1842, and the pension was
continued to his widow. They had a son named Linden.
Hello,
I got a Revolutionary war pension file for my Joseph Cummins and it confirms
that his wife's name was Olive. It doesn't give a last name but says they
were married in Cumberland, Rhode Island on March 4, 1781. It says they were
both from Cumberland and has a letter stating the marriage was performed by
Jonathan Carpenter, JP. There was also a letter included from a William P.
Baxter of Chicago seeking a copy of his file in 1904. He was also looking
for files on an Aaron Blanchard and Adam Howard. Aaron and Adam both
served in the Massacusetts line and Joseph served in the Rhode Island
Continental line. Not sure who these other men are but the connection is that all
three of them lived in Windsor Co., VT at one time. Joseph died in Windsor
Co. in 1842. If any of this looks familiar to anyone please contact me.
Thanks,
Amy Keefer
