Norman Wilford Jones, 82, who was a building contractor in Klamath Falls for 36 years, died July 23, 1999, at his Klamath Falls residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born in San Dimas, CA, to William and Jennie Mae (Eck) Jones. As a child he moved with his family to the Rogue River area and attended school there. While still a teenager, he moved to Pomona, CA, to work in a tile plant. In 1939 his father moved to Klamath Falls, where he started a contracting business, and asked his son to join him. So he moved to Klamath Falls. He married his wife, Emogene "Jean" Hawkins in Reno in 1941. Mr. Jones served in the Army during World War II from 1942 until 1945. After his military service, he returned to Klamath Falls and started his own construction company, Norman Jones Construction Inc.

His company built the majority of homes in the Peterson Elementary School area and also constructed most of the banks with drive-in tellers.

One of his last projects was the Klamath Family Practice medical building near the hospital.

Mr. Jones enjoyed fishing and especially liked elk hunting. After his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to the coast and other places of interest in the United States. They also traveled to Israel, the Amazon, China, Europe and South America and particularly enjoyed family cruises and trips to Mexico. He was a member of Klamath Masonic Lodge No. 7, both the Scotttish Rite and York rite, Hillah Shrine and the Klamath Shrine Club. He and his wife were members of the Hillah Nomads. He also was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. A past patron of the Friendship Court Order of Amaranth and a life member of the Aloha Chapter of Eastern Star.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and, after the church burned several years ago, remodeled and added a sanctuary to the old Fremont Junior High School building, which became the new First Baptist Church building at 707 High Street. More recently, he added the new geothermal heating system to the building.
