Joseph A. Jones, 90, died in Klamath Falls, Ore., on May 27, 2009. His family was by his side. A service of tribute and love will be held at the First Baptist Church on 707 High Street in Klamath Falls, on June 6, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Audey Wiley and Gene Scott officiating. A private interment was held at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens.
Joseph was born on May 26, 1919, in Chino, Calif., to William F. and Jenny May Ike Jones. Early in his teens, the family moved to the Rogue River area near Evans Creek. After graduation, Joe moved to the Klamath Falls area. He began working in the construction trade at that time. In 1940, Joe joined the U.S. Navy and served four years in the Sea Bees Naval Construction Battalion. Joe served his country in World War II. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 15, 1945. One day prior to his discharge, he married the love of his life, Arlyn Moe, on Dec. 14, 1945, in Bremerton, Wash.
Joseph and Arlyn moved back to Klamath Falls where Joseph owned and operated a construction company for over 52 years.
Joseph had a great love for the outdoors. He could always be found working in his garden, greenhouse, or headed off to fish at some nearby lake or river. He especially enjoyed his trips to Brookings, where he could take care of his small place and fish on the ocean. Along with fishing he was an avid hunter. There wasn't much that Joe didn't enjoy when it came to the outdoors. Joseph also had a great love and appreciation for God, his family and friends. Joseph belonged to the First Baptist Church in Klamath Falls for over 60 years. He served as the chairman of the missionary committee and belonged to the Gideons. Joseph devoted much of his time to service work for his church and the Gideons.
He is survived by his wife Arlyn, of Klamath Falls; sons and daughter-in-laws Andrew and Linda Jones and Joseph Paul and Debbie Jones; daughter, Ruth Basco all of Klamath Falls; sister Ella Slaughter of Springfield, Ore.; brothers Bill Jones of Brookings, Ore., and Jerry Jones of Montana; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was recently preceded in death on May 25, 2009, by his oldest son, Edward Jones of Klamath Falls.
Eternal Hills Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A special thanks to High Desert Hospice and all of its staff. All donations and contributions can be made in C/O Joseph Jones to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 5137, Klamath Falls, Ore.
