Facts and Events
Note from John Robert Lowrey: Nettie Mae's mother died before she was one year old and her father died when she was fourteen. Shortly after her father's death, she was admitted to the IOOF Widows and Orphans Home in Cosicanna, Texas. She graduated from high school there and remained there until 1904. She then went to Dallas and worked as a sales clerk for Tiche Goetinger until she married in 1907. She was a member of the Baptist Church and raised all her children in that faith. She was always very active in church activities and frequently she would have the pastor and his wife over for dinner on Sundays after church. She was also active in school activities and took interest in all the children in the neighborhood. It was not unusual for her to have all the neighbors children come to her home for parties and there was always plenty of home-made ice cream and cake for everyone. She played the piano and sang in the church choir. Her morals were very high and she expected all her children to follow the pattern she had set for them. John Robert Lowrey References
