BIOGRAPHY:Karen1j1@aol.com HI Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you, just busy with work and life. Nellie Knight married William Gubbins; born in Lapeer Co. on 8/26/1871 Midland, MI. He died 2/5/1938. He was 20 years old and a farmer in Tuscola Co., Michigan. His mother's maiden name was Ruth Bronson. Nellie 18 at time of marraige and they lived in Midland, Michigan. Her birthplace was Canada; and she was born 8/1873 .She was a housekeeper for her father who was Adam Knight. They were married 12/25/1891, in the presence of William Knight of Midland and someone whom I can't make out the first name but the last name looks like Knight (Ladie) This I found on a copy of their marraige license.

His father was Alexander Gubbins and mother was Ruth Bronson The William Gubbins who married Nellie Knight was also married to F. Polly Hicks and later to Ada Young without benefit of divorces.

The story goes that he had a rupture on one side and someone told him he could never have sons, So when their son Edwin was 3 months old, William left for town with a load of grain to be sold and to buy shoes for the kids and supplies, he never returned. Edwin lived a hard life, He had a 4th grade eductaion and by the time he was 12 he was working at a saw mill in Gaylord, MI. He worked for the cook and had to be up early to bring in water and firwood for the cook stove. Often he had to get up at 2 a.m. and go with the water wagon to help make an ice slide for the logs. It says here Nellie died when he was young

Told by Edna (Gubbins) Ostrom to her daughter-in-law. The family came from Holland to PA and from there to Northern MI. Grandparents died before whe was born. Didn't know their names. Her father (William Gubbins) had disappeared withoout a trace. They lived in a logging camp in Bay County near Kawkawlin River. After waiting a number of years her mother, Nellie Knight remarried a man named Norman Gary, moved to Coleman, MI and that is wherea Edna and Tom Ostom met and married in 1908. This is where my line starts. I She lived with the Knights when she was 8, and still living with them when she was 18. Nellie and William were living in Oscoda Co., MI, when he was married to Nellie Nellie remarried after a few years between 1900 and 1904. It is said she got up to soon after having a miscarraige; she hemorraged and died when her daughter Grace was 6 years old. This would make it 1910 when her son William was born. If it was after a miscarraige it woul be 1911 or later. Nellie's mother name was spelled Chsta on the 1900 censes. Her maiden name was not legible.

Her children from William Gubbins were: Edna 3/9/1892, m. 12/7/1908 and died 5/8/1967 in Saginaw, MI. Buried in Newton Cemetery in Tuscola, MI She married Thomas C. Ostom Ethel Belle Gubbins born 5/1893 Iva Gubbins: born 4/1895, she married Charles Williams Edwin Daniel Gubbins: born 4/19/1897, he married Eliza Williams, He died 9/23/1963, in Saginaw, MI buried in Pinegrove Cemetery, Freeland, MI

Children of Norman Gary: Grace Gary: 1/7/1904, Beaver or Kawkawlin Twp., Bay Co., MI Minnie Gary: 11/5/1906 same place as above (all the children) She married Walter Howard Moeller or possibly just Walter Howard. Norman Gary: 3/6/1908 William Gary: 9/24/1910

Hope this helps a bit. Karen
