Facts and Events
[edit] Personal HistorySt. John is a county in the province of New Brunswick. Nathan (31 = born ~1829) is in the 1860 census living in Manlius, Bureau, Illinois with his wife (Agnes 35) and six children (Thomas 9, Anna 7, Edward 6, Effie 5, Lucy J. 4 (all born in Canada W.), and Betsy 1 (born in Illinois). Hence, they came to the USA between 1856 and 1859 from Canada West, which is Ontario. There is a Nathan (27 on his next birthday, which calc. to born ~1825, New Brunswick) in the Canada 1851 census living in Bromley, Renfrew County, Canada West (Ontario) with James Vaughn (57 = ~1795 born in Hallifax, Baptist) and wife Anne (55 = ~1797 born in Hallifax, Baptist) and four other children Harret (25), James (20), Saml (17), and Eliza (16 =~1836, all in New Brunswick). Because there is also a James W. Vaughn in the 1860 census living in Princeton, Bureau (63 =~1797, Nova Scotia) with wife Ann (62 =~1798, Nova Scotia) and daughter Elizabeth (21 =~1839, Nova Scotia), I want to assume that James and Anne are Nathan's parents. To-Do: Find out where he was married and who his parents are; look for his obituary in Marshall county, Iowa. |
