Nancy McKee was born in Boardmills, Down, Ireland in 1799, daughter of Brice and Mary McKee. She married George Hazlett. They had at least five children in Castle (= Blaneycastle), Blaney County, Monaghan, 1827-1839. In 1845 they sailed for America, but George died at sea. Nancy and children lived in Jo Daviess County in the northwest corner of Illinois and, briefly, elsewhere in Illinois. They then followed son George to Monona, Giard Township, Clayton County, Iowa. In 1860 Nancy lived there with sons James and Thomas, next door to son George and his family. She died there in 1862 and was buried in Monona Cemetery.
