Facts and Events
George Hazlett was originally from Scottland, but he and his wife Nancy McKee (or MacKee, of the MacKay Clan) moved to Ireland and settled in CastleBlayney where their five children were born. George had red hair, which went mostly gray by age 30. He made his living in Ireland as a policeman, as did his son George. Both Georges were members of the Order of Orange, a Protestant organization. In 1845, during the potato famine, George's family emmigrated to the United States, but he died during the voyage and was buried at sea. |
