2. MOSES2 KELSAY (JOHN1) was born October 29, 1740 in Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania, and died December 30, 1812 in Barren Co. Kentucky. He married JANET SMITH February 29, 1764 in Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania. She was born Abt. 1746 in Unknown, and died Bef. 1810 in Barren Co. Kentucky.

Notes for MOSES KELSAY: Moses Kelsay, born October 29, 1740 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania On February 29, 1784, Moses married in Hanover York County, Pennsylvania to Janet Smith - By 1771 they were residents on the north side of Buffalo Creek in Botetourt County, Virginia.

Moses and his brothers (John, David and Samuel) raised hemp to be sold for the making of rope. On January 12, 1773 he purchased seventy acres on a dry branch called Dry Run in the Forks of the James River and remained there until he sold this land on June 5, 1779. We lose any record of Moses and his family until he appears on a tax list in 1787 in Washington County, Northwest Territory of North Carolina (later to become Tennessee). On January 27, 1792 Moses purchased 200 acres in neighboring Greene County, Tennessee, on the waters of Lick and Plum Creeks. By 1800 Moses and his family have moved westward to Barren County Kentucky, where he had acquired a Tellico Land Grant of 150 acres on Glovers Creek, Jane, as his wife was called, died before 1810, and Moses died in Barren County on December 30, 1812. Of their seven known children, some remained in Kentucky while others moved on to Missouri and Illinois.
