Smoke Ferree CD - November 2004

    Hi Mike,

I was reading your response in the Ferree GenForum about John W. Ferree and thought this might shed some light for you. (Don't forge the link)! Moses, John W's father, was a brother to Isaac from whom my husband is descended. Subsequently, for about 2 years I have been researching this clan. Several sources, including the Ferree Family Tree (by Maj. G.B. Ferree ), on page 1, shows that the first 6 children of John Ferree born 1761 who married Rebecca Marsh (including Moses,) were born in Bracken County, Kentucky....then 6 additional children were born in Clermont County, Ohio. Additionally, in the "History of Clermont County, Ohio with Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of its Prominent Men and Pioneers" (Louis H. Everts, 1880), the profile of John Ferree (Moses' father) states that he settled in Stonelick Township (Clermont County) in 1809, names the 12 children, etc. Also, it mentions that he organized the first Methodist Episcopal Church in his home about 1811. Further, it says "He was a native of Maryland, and was born May 27, 1761. His father subsequently removed to Pennsylvania about the year 1780, and shortly afterwards to Bracken County, Kentucky, six miles south of Augusta".

I also have a copy of the Will of (this) John Ferree dated 9-12-1812, Clermont County, Ohio. Actually, Moses was listed as a debtor to the estate (1839) in the amount of $65.00.

Now.....my biggest brick wall is "Who was the father of this John Ferree?? ?? Even the Family Tree contradicts itself: one place, it shows that Philip who married Sarah Evans was his father: another place shows it was Peter who married Rachael Shertz. Do you have any knowledge about this? I would appreciate any help.

If I can help shed any light on the Clermont County clans for you, let me know. I always read your posts and the Ferree Rootsweb site with great interest. Thank you for your research and input.

My husband Bill and I live in Danville, Illinois but just moved from the Cincinnati area (neighbor of Clermont County).

Looking forward to hearing from you,

    Char Ferree
