Morton H. Meinhard was the only son of Henry Meinhard. Morton began work for his father's business as a teenager.

Morton founded his own business in 1898. He built his business into one of the major garment factors in the country. He collected Renaissance art and was a major donor to Jewish charities.

The Henry Meinhard Memorial House ( a settlement house) was founded in 1914 at 100 East 101st Street in a Jewish area of New York City by Morton Meinhard as a tribute to his father.

Morton Meinhard died childless at the age of 58 in 1931 of pernicious anemia while on an ocean tour of the Sea of Japan. Thirty two years after his death, his estate made the single largest gift ($1,000,000) towards the construction of the new gym at Columbia University.
