Minnie Moles (or Moules) was born in 1883 at St Ippolyts in Hertfordshire, the youngest daughter of a midwife named Fanny Moles, formerly Worbey, and her husband Thomas Moles, a mole and rat catcher. The family lived right on the border of the parishes of St Ippolyts and Hitchin, and Minnie was baptised at St Mary's Church in Hitchin on 9th January 1884. The 1891 census finds Minnie living with her parents and siblings at The Common in St Ippolyts, which appears to have been in the vicinity of the modern road The Paddock, off Blackhorse Lane. Minnie's father Thomas died in 1895, when Minnie was about eight years old.

By 1901, Minnnie had left the Hitchin area and was working as a domestic servant at Southgate in Middlesex, in the rapidly expanding northern suburbs of London.

The following year, Minnie married Charles Archer. For the first few years after their marriage they lived in the Bowes Park area of Wood Green. They had a daughter called Elsie May in 1903 and a son called Charles Leslie in 1907. The 1911 census finds Charles, Minnie and their children living at 58 Marlborough Road in Wood Green. Charles was working as a photographer by this time.

After the First World War the family lived at 13A Northbrook Road, just round the corner from Marlborough Road, where they lived from at least 1919 to 1928. Back in Hitchin, Minnie's mother died in 1922.

Around 1929 the family moved about a mile to 19 Chimes Avenue in Southgate, where they were living in both 1930 and 1931. Minnie's daughter married in 1929.

Some time between 1931 and 1939 the family moved to 13 Ridgeway Avenue at East Barnet in Hertfordshire, which was to be Minnie's last home. She died on 11th June 1939 at the Wellhouse Hospital in Barnet (later renamed Barnet General Hospital). She was 55 years old. Charles survived her by about twelve years.
