Address 1: Born at No. 226

Maria had a twin, Georg, who died at the age of three months.

In the Monroe County naturalization records, Vol 288, page 15, Michael is listed as applying for citizenship. He lives at 12 Galusha Street and is 76 years old. His two witnesses are Henry Bauman of 23 Evergreen Street and Georg Brandt of 1076 Garson Avenue. I can still remember their (Maria and Michael) asking me to quiz them for the citizenship exam.

Katherine Wagner Keller relates that Michael was in WWI. His first wife had died and he was left with four children. He was worried about what would happen to them. So he gouged a big hole in one of his big toes. He put something on to make the wound fester. It got so bad, they let him go home. While he was home, the war ended. He must have seen quite a bit of bloodshed because he said he couldn't stand the smell of a woman (while she was menstruating) -- he overcame this, however, and he and Mary (his brother's sister-in-law) lived together. She had one daughter and he had three daughters and a son. They (their children) never really got along -- they weren't the Brady Bunch.

Came to the US to go to Harrisburg via Ellis Island. Arrived March 18, 1908 on the Vaderland which sailed out of Antwerp. His son was born January 25 of that year! He traveled with a group of Semlakers: Gyorgy & Lisi Hai (Haj?), Lisi Brandt with her child Gyorgy, Michel Wagner, Daniel Zimmermann and Johann Wolf. They all listed themselves as going to the home of George Brandt (nephew to the Hais, husband to Lisi, and friend to the others) at 1102 Rauber Street in Harrisburg.

Michael later came July 25, 1922 with three of his children (Listed as Rosina, Michael, and Katharina) to Rochester. New York via New YorkC Ellis Island. They were also listed on the America on July 22, 1922. His daughter, Elisabeth, was listed on another page of the manifest. Michael, Rosina, Michael, Jr. and Katherine had been crossed out. On July 25, they sailed on the Mount Clinton, sailing from Hamburg. Information is from the ship manifest. It stated that their passage was paid for by Michael's nephew, Stefan Holczimmer, and that they were going to his house at 31 Oakman Street, Rochester, New York. It also noted that Michael had been in Harrisburg, PA from 1907-1909. Michael had $200 upon landing. His hair was listed as dark brown and he had brown eyes. His height was listed as 5'. on the Vaderland in 1908, he was listed as being 5'7". So, you can see that the records might not always be right. I don't know when he married Amichneni but it was when they were in America.
