Michael HUFF (bp 29 Mar 1714 St Paul's Episcopal Ch, Kent Co, MD as son of John and Hannah - prob. d. Bedford or Washington Co, PA)
On c 1735 in MD Michael married Elizabeth (c 1715 - ), parents not known.
Michael was specifically identified in the John Huff will to receive 50 acres of land John had bought in 1717 from Thomas GIDEON. On 21 Oct 1740, Michael HUFF, John HUFF, J. S. CALDER; and George COOPER, Jr, had inventoried John HUFF's estate, with Morgan HUFF and M. A. PAGE as appraisors. On 12 Dec 1741, Michael HUFF disposed of the 50 acres he had received. Michael HUFF had on 16 May 1735, witnessed will of William BAYLEY of Kent Co. Michael Huff may have left Kent Co about the time of his father's death, as he does not again show up on records there.
During 1757/58, one Michael HUFF served in the French and Indian War in Capt NORRIS' and Lt Richard WELLS' Comp. This unit was recruited in Baltimore Co, which at the time incl Harford Co. This Michael, from circumstantial evidence, is believed to be son of Michael and Elizabeth, but this could be wrong. After the War was over, Richard WELLS led the move to Western VA, then including part of PA.
About 1761, the HUFF family settled in the Great Cove area of Cumberland Co, PA, and began making improvements. They then applied for land grants. (This land was later in Bedford Co).
There were two Michael HUFF land grants on 6 Feb 1767 in Bedford Co, PA, to Michael HUFF, one possibly to the son and one to the father. John HUFF and Elijah HUFF also received grants the same day. These grants were in the Great Cove area about 8 or 9 miles east of present-day Bedford, PA. By 1768, 1769, and 1770, Michael HUFF, Sr and Michael HUFF, Jr, were with Joseph DODDRIDGE in Bedford and Colerain townships of Bedford Co, PA. A little later, some of the sons moved into Washington Co, PA.
