Michael Emrick was born February 10, 1756 in Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, the son of Johannes "John" Emrick and Anna Gertrude Schaeffer. He was baptised on March 20, 1756 by Reverend Decker, Reformed Minister. Sponsors were John Jacob Emrick and his wife Anna Maria. He was received into the Lutheran faith May 16, 1761.

During the Revolutionary War he served with Captain Shepler's Company 1770-1780. He also served in Lt. Captain Folmer's Company, Berks County, Pennsylvania, as a Lieutenant 8th Class.

On September 22, 1778 he married Christina Kanter, the daughter of Jacob Kanter of Tulpehocken Township, in Christ Lutheran Church in Stouchsburg, Pennsylvania.

Michael, along with 3 brothers and George Emrick, a relitave, set out for Ohio in 1804 looking for a new start. The scouting party found what seemed to be a good location north of Cincinncti. They returned to Pennsylvania gathered the families and belongings and in 1806 returned to what would become Germantown, Ohio.

He was a man of means and purchased at once land for those of his children who were grown up to years of maturity. Himself a strict and consistent member of the Lutheran Church, he brought up all his children in his own faith. He frequently held official positions in the congregation, and contributed largely to its support. Michael Emrick died October 14, 1820. He and his wife Christina are buried in the Sunbury Cemetery.
