Melissa Jane Lambson (1846-1937) Melissa was born in Winter Quarters, Florence, Douglas County, Nebraska, a stopover for the LDS people who had been forced out of Nauvoo, Illinois by mob violence. Her parents were among the original pioneers of the Mormon church who fled Nauvoo because of the mob. Under the leadership of Brigham Young, they eventually trecked West. The group spent the Winter at Winter Quarters, however, where they suffered severe hardships. They resumed their journey in the Spring, arriving in the Salt Lake Valley in the Summer of 1847.
