Mrs.. Mattie R. Cates BURLINGTON - Mrs.. Mattie Rich Cates , 84, of 3148 Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Road, died at 6:55 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, at her home after a long illness, one month critical. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Walter L. Cates and the daughter of Mr. Wesley G. Rich of Mary Ann Sharpe of Emily Isley of Christian of Malachi II and Mrs.. Mamie Keck Rich of Sarah J. Isley of Philip of Martin, both deceased. She was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery Inc. and was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Golden Agers Club and the Clarice Pickett Sunday School Class. Survivors include a son, Mr. Randy L. Cates of the home; a sister, Mrs.. Alzora Isley of Burlington; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jeff Roberts, pastor. The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O.
