Mrs.. Mattie Lou Bulla Capps BURLINGTON — Mrs.. Mattie Lou Bulla Capps, 85, of Liberty Commons, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Liberty Commons after a lengthy illness. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Dewey Levenworth Capps Sr., and the daughter of the late Franklin Michaux Bulla and Margaret Shoffner Bulla. She was a hosiery employee and later in life was a caregiver. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs.. Martha McPherson Leonard and Mrs.. Carolyn McPherson Nance, both of Burlington, and Mrs.. Frankie Michele Long Gwaltney of Graham; a son, Mr. Dewey Bulla Capps of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs.. Pauline B. Sharpe and Mrs.. Jacksie B. Smith, both of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Benjamin Franklin Bulla of Saxapahaw and Mr. James Linwood Bulla of Burlington; two stepsons, Mr. Neil Capps and Mr. Harold Capps, both of Burlington; two stepdaughters, Mrs.. Frances Nichols and Mrs.. Audrey Askew, both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Thomas Gordon McPherson; two brothers, Mr. Raymond Bulla and Mr. Colon Bulla; and three sisters, Mrs.. Ruby Maness, Mrs.. Una Mae Graves, and Mrs.. Vivian B. Coble. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Steve Loy. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening. Memorials may be made to Bryan Alzheimer’s Disease Research, c/o Duke University, Office of Gift Records, 614 Chapel Drive Annex, Box 90581, Durham, N.C. 27708-0581.
