According to several WorldConnect databases, Polly was the daughter of William P. Stoops and Mary Ann Brown of Venango Co., Pennsylvania. Her brother James D. Stoops (1798- ) married Mary 'Polly' Shankland, sister to John Shankland; and her sister Judith Stoops (1805-1882) married his brother Andrew G. Shankland. 

 Polly first married John Shankland, son of John Shankland and Comfort Parker, in 1818.  They had one daughter, Elizabeth.  After he died (about 1821) she married his cousin, John Wolfe Shankland, son of David Shankland, in 1822.
 Her daughter Betsy, by her first husband, also married a Shankland.
