William H. Scott and Wife
Whereas by the last will and testament of Mary Short late of Cecil County deceased now on file and of Record in the office for the Registry of Wills for Cecil County, Mary Short daughter of the said Mary Short deceased is entitled to one third of the residue of the Real and personal estate of said deceased after the payments of Debts and funeral expenses and cost of administration, which said distributive share by said Will is given in trust to James L. Wilson and William Short sons of the said deceased for the benefit of the said Mary Short and her heirs and Whereas William H. Scott who has intermarried with the said Mary Short now Mary Scott hath executed a mortgage upon a certain Real Estate in Chester County in the State of Pennsylvania to secure to Mary Scott formerly Mary Short and her heirs the said distributive share of the estate of her said mother. Now Know all men by these presents that we William H. Scott and Mary Scott formerly Mary Short do Hereby acquit exonerate and forever discharge James L. Wilson and William Short Executors of the said Mary Short deceased from all liability on account of the Said bequest and distributive Share of the estate of the said Mary Short deceased due to the said Mary Short now Mary Scott and do also hereby release them the said James L. Wilson and William Short from all responsibility as trustees under the will of said deceased and further we do Hereby acknowledge to have received from the said James L. Wilson and William Short Executors of the said Mary Short deceased the sum of one Hundred and twenty-five dollars and twenty sixty five cents $125.65/100 in full of the distributive share of the said estate of the said deceased due Mary Short now Mary Scott as by distribution struck and filed in the Office for the Registery of Wills for Cecil County filed February term 1850 appears. Great grandma, Mary Ellen Short had black hair and eyes, was 5' 1" tall. Mary Ellen had more temper & spunk than grandpa.
[Note: Many of her descendants were convinced that Mary Ann's name was really Mary Ellen, possibly because Mary Ann's daughter was named Mary Ellen.]
