Mary Ann Amelia Rowe was born in 1851 at Brompton in the parish of Gillingham, Kent. She was the daughter of a straw bonnet maker named Mary Rowe, formerly Scott, and her husband Samuel Rowe, a Royal Marine.

Mary appears in the 1851 census with her parents and siblings at 16 Middle Street in Brompton. She has yet to be researched after 1851.
