Kokomo Tribune: Mary E., wife of W.H. Edwards, died January 22 at 9 o'clock at her late home, 99 North Market street, of grip, complicated with other diseases, after an illness of less than a week, aged 55 years. The funeral took place at the house Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.W. Choate. The final resting place of the remains was in Crown Point cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Pitman was born 55 years ago at Cambridge City, Ind., where she attended the public schools and grew to womanhood. The family then moved to Indianapolis, where she was united in marriage with William H. Edwards, of this city, in October, 1869. They began housekeeping in this city, where they have resided ever since. Seven children have come into the Edwards household, all of whom, together with the bereft father, survive her. Deceased had formerly belonged to the Christian church, but of late years she affiliated in church fellowship with the Congregationalists, in which faith she passed away in the full possession of a hope that is both sure and steadfast and that fives promise of a blessed immortality. As a neighbor and friend, she was loved and honored by all who came within the circle of her acquaintance, but it was in the home where her life shown the brightest. Within its sacred realm her busy hands and tender voice were like ministering angels. Within its circle she will be missed. She gave her life for her husband and children and it can truly be said that a good woman has fallen. ----- [Note: Obit says that they had 7 children. Mary actually gave birth to 9 children, but 2 did not survive.]
