Mrs. Hannah Pitman died at the home of her son, Leonidas Pitman, Thursday, July 21, 1887. She was born in Pennsylvania Dec. 23d 1803, aged 83 years, 5 months, and 28 days. Mrs. Pitman was among the early settlers, having resided in this place for 52 years. Her husband, Eli Pitman, who died in 1861 was a cabinet maker by trade and for many years up to near the time of his death, was the only undertaker here. She was the mother of seven children, five, Warner, Leonidas, William, George and Mary, survive her, while John and Mahetable preceded her in death. For a great many years she has been a faithful member of the Disciple Church, and ever lived a consistent exemplary Christian life. She was well known and respected by all. During her last years she has been in poor health and a great sufferer. Has made her home with her children, who have done their whole duty in supplying her every want. Of late she was happy to the thought that the end and heaven must be so near. So after arriving at a good old age, as a shock of corn, fully ripe and as the righteous only can die, she was gathered to her father's mansion, to dwell forever with Him. Funeral services on Saturday afternoon at the residence of her son, Lee Pitman. Revs. Retts and Parsons, officiating. Her remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in Capitol Hill Cemetery.
