Per email from Allen, Mary Peterson was born in Kristiansund, near Trondheim, Norway. I changed my info to Kristiansund because Allen has done more research, but I am requesting his source to back this up. Mary's obituary does show Trondheim, and that's what my mother told me. LOVING MOTHER DIED WEDNESDAY Death comes to Mrs. Pelleymounter – Community Shocked by News from original newspaper clipping

Clipping on file with: Janessa Krater Roberts 13 Copley Place Laguna Niguel, CA 92677 951-515-2356 White 3-ring binder, “Genealogy Source Book; Census Records and Family Notes.” Filed as record #F2007 under Family Notes

Mrs. Mary Pelleymounter suddenly and unexpectedly passed away last Wednesday afternoon. While she had not been in good health for the past two years, she had been able to be up each day and had assisted almost daily in the care of her aged mother, who is ill at the Pelleymounter home. The younger children were at school and the eldest son, at home, at work at his usual occupation in the Register office, when word of her death came to them from the daughters at home.

Mary Pelleymounter, was a brave, courageous, Christian woman and her passing has caused much sorrow in the community. She was the mother of a fine family of children and since her husband died in 1921 she has continued the work of looking after her loved ones with interest and affection almost beyond belief. Ever cheerful and light hearted, she was dearly loved by every member of her family and by all her acquaintances and friends. She bore her suffering with a fortitude most grand and no one realized the end was so near.

Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, the church being filled to capacity and many were obliged to stand during the services. Rev. Nixon, of Nevada, had charge of the services, which were most impressive and carried a message of cheer to the relatives and friends of the departed loved one. Interment was made in the cemetery at Algona where she was laid to rest beside her husband and two children that died in infancy. The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful, the entire platform being filled with blossoms and the church with their perfume.

The pall bearers were F. L. Bennett, Burt*, R.E. Burgess, H.E. Janvrin, C. Behrmann, R.E. Goddard and H.E. Thiess, of Bancroft, all old friends of the deceased.

  • I believe the Burt referred to here is the town that F.L. Bennett came from. See
the last paragraph of this news article, where Burt is again mentioned as the home

of Mrs. Will Shackelford. Noted by Janessa Krater Roberts, 17 March 2007 (daughter of Laura Pelleymounter, daughter of Mary Pelleymounter).

Mary Peterson was born at Trundjhem, Norway, in the year 1873, and passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Bancroft, Wednesday, September 28, after an illness of about two years. Her age at death being 54 years, two months and 24 days.

In the year 1878 she came to this country with her parents and located near Albert Lea, Minnesota. Her father passed away the first summer they were in America, thus casting a great shadow upon the home. The mother however, bravely took up her responsibility of caring for the home and a short time after the death of her husband located on a farm near Thompson, where the children were raised.

Her first marriage was to Will Matheson and to this union were born two children, one of which died in infancy. The other is Mrs. W. V. Waters now living at Atlanta, Georgia.

On May 13, 1894, she was united in marriage to Robert Pelleymounter at Hutchins, and to this happy union were born thirteen children all of whom are living except three that died in infancy. They lived at Hutchins for about three years, later locating at Algona. They have lived in Kossuth county most of the time with the exception of five years that they spent in Spencer. Since 1911 they have lived in Bancroft. Mr. Pelleymounter passed away in 1921.

At an early age she gave her heart to God and became a Christian, uniting with the Lutheran church. Twenty-eight years ago she accepted the teachings of the Seventh-day Adventists and to this faith she remained loyal until the time of her death. She was a faithful companion, a loving mother and a good neighbor. Therefore her presence will be greatly missed in the neighborhood as well as in the home.

It was two years ago that Mrs. Pelleymounter began to fail in health and while her condition was considered serious yet her death came as a great shock to all the family. However they sorrow not as others which have no hope, for they look forward to a grand reunion in that better land.

She leaves to mourn their loss six daughters, Mrs. Elmo Stuart, of Chicago; Mrs. J.E. Kylen, of Chicago; Mrs. W.V. Waters of Atlanta, Georgia; Dora, Mildred and Laura of Bancroft; five sons, Charles A. of Mountain View, California; Harold of San Francisco, California; Paul, Clifford and Robert at home. Also five step-children, Austie Pelleymounter, of Des Moines; Mrs. Frank Henderson, Pomona, California; Mrs. T.Y. Williams, New York City; Robin Pelleymounter of Osage; Otis Pelleymounter of San Francisco, California.

Her aged mother also survives as well as two brothers, Ole and Peter Peterson of Bancroft.

She was laid to rest in the Riverview Cemetery at Algona, there to await the coming of the Life Giver.

A loving mother, a good friend and neighbor is gone but not forgotten, and the memory of her good deeds and actions will long be green in the minds of many and dear friends.

The Register cannot express the high regard in which Mary Pelleymounter has always been held by her friends and neighbors and words of condolence to the surviving members, avail nothing to those so near and dear to her. They have to carry with them through life the wonderful message left them by Rev. Nixon and his words will be of great comfort to them while traveling through this earthly veil of tears.

Relatives of Mrs. Pelleymounter from out of town attending her funeral here Sunday include the following: Mrs. W. V. Waters, Atlanta, GA; Mrs. Elmo Stuart and daughter, Caroline, and Mrs. J.E. Kylen, of Chicago; Miss Austie Pelleymounter, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Storvik, of Albert Lea; Mr. John Opdahl and daughters, Miss Ella, and Mrs. Jim Gorenson, and Mrs. Bertina Hagenson, of Thompson; also a number of friends including Mr. and Mrs. Will Freeman, Mrs. Nordstrom and daughters, Agnes and Lillie, and Dr. Stella Martinson, of Algona; Mrs. Will Shackelford of Burt; Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Carlisle and son, Winfield, and Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Carlisle and daughter, Buelah, and son, Gordon, of Whttemore.
