Mrs. Vlad Macha, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 17, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided the past year.

The former Mary Moses, she was born Oct. 13, 1895, in Allamakee, Ia., the daughter of Albert and Mary (Lestina) Moses. She attended school in Clayton County, Ia.

On Feb. 26, 1919, she married Vlad Macha at McGregor, Ia. They farmed east of Monona from 1920 to 1933, moving to Hesper Twp., Winneshiek County, Ia., near Mabel, Mn., in 1933, where she lived until her death.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Mabel, of which she was past president; a member of World War I Barracks #1266 at Decorah, Ia., serving as past treasurer. She had also served as treasurer of School District No. 6 in Hesper Twp.

Survivors are her husband; two sons, Thomas of Mabel and Edwin of Fairborn, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Irene) Kofoed of Pipestone, Mn., and Mrs. Larry (Carol) Quillian of Washington DC; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother, William Moses of Ferryville, Wis.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 pm Monday at the Mengis Funeral Home. The Rev. Mary Dreier officiated. Burial was in the Hesper Public Cemetery.
