  19. Age 80 on census day 4 April 1881 would imply a birth date between 5 April 1800 and 4 April 1801. Baptism 14 Nov 1800 -- if it is the same person -- implies birth then or before.

Aleck Henderson's 1900 Mass Mutual application seems to imply that she was still alive on that date, but may not, given the evidence in this census.

In 1881 census, "Restalrig, Edinburgh" is given as birthplace. Birth record found in South Leith. Both are apparently within Edinburgh, judging from the following:

Restalrig is a district in South Leith - and I should know because I live there!! Leith was a separate burgh in the 1800's but is now part of Edinburgh.

    Hope this helps

Previous death estimate based on two lines of evidence: (1) 1881 census entry gives her age as 80; baptism record is from late 1800. (2) Aleck Henderson's 1910 Bankers Life application: Mother's mother died age 90 of "senility." Clue #2 turned out to be seriously misleading.
