In the policy amendment to Alec Henderson's Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. Policy #144,878, made at Urbana, Ill., May 14/18, 1900, he states mother's age at death was 39, and she died of "internal abscess formed after childbirth."

on the Seventh day of July and baptized on the First day of August by the
name of Elizabeth."
From Edinburgh Register of Deaths:
She died "3h. on PM" at "No. 31 Gillespie Crescent," age 39, of "chronic pelvic abscess, 6 months"
Informant signature was F. H. Machugh, nephew, most likely son of Robert's sister Janet.

Aleck's Mass Mutual insurance application 14 May 1900:
"Age at death 39, she died of internal abscess formed after childbirth. Ill six months."
Aleck's Bankers Life insurance application 14 June 1910: age at death 34, puerperal fever, ill 2 weeks.
