JBCurley, p. 4: "The property on the corner of Harvard and Holyokke streets became Holyoke House, a gathering place for Havard University students from across the street. Mary, Robert's first wife, apparently was a woman of resourcefulness and energy. A legend tells of her earning money for housekeping expenses by making beer for the students, "The best beer that I have ever swallowed," a president of the college is quoted as exclaiming.
