Mary Hammond was baptised on 16th December 1740 at Oving in Sussex, daughter of Mary Hammond, formerly Watts, and her husband William Hammond, a blacksmith. She has yet to be traced after her baptism.

    This entry only appears in the Bishop's Transcripts, not being found in the Parish Registers. However, the Parish Registers acknowledge a deficiency in this period, with a number of baptisms between 1735 and 1741 inserted out of sequence under a note: "Omitted in their proper places Through neglect of the person supplying the cures of Oving during the absence of the Vicar."
