Christening[1] 17 Jul 1738 Slindon, Sussex, England

James Hammond was baptised on 17th July 1738 at Slindon in Sussex, son of Mary Hammond, formerly Watts, and her husband William Hammond, a blacksmith. James has yet to be traced after his baptism. His parents later moved a few miles south to South Bersted. One possibility is that James was the James Hammond buried at South Bersted on 31st January 1798, although insufficient information is given on the burial record to be sure.
