Another Mary Downing was recorded as being born to Mary's mother on 18 February 1798, 2 1/2 years after George Downing's death. There is a record of a burial of Mary DOWNING four days later on 22 February 1798. It is not known for sure which Mary this burial refers to.

This Mary has been assumed to be the one who maried Thomas NOBLE. However, there is some doubt whether that may have been the one born to Mary DOWNING, nee ALDRIDGE, in 1798, in which case this Mary died in 1798.

Evidence from later events in Mary's life are confusing; 1851 and 1861 censuses infer a birth date of 1785, her death certificate infers 1792, the Roydon burial register infers 1788. She was illiterate, so there is some doubt about her ability to know her own age.
