Designed the Vermont state seal Colonial families of the United States of America: Volume 1 page 592 NORMAN WILLIAMS, m. at Woodstock, 11th December, 1817, Mary Ann Wentworth BROWN, b. in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, 24th November, 1795; d. in Montclair, N. J., 6th November, 1879; dau. of Henry Barlow and Rebecca (APPLETON) BROWN of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, and Woodstock, Vt. While he was Secretary of State, Mrs. Williams made the sketch from which the present great Seal of Vermont was cut; she had previously designed seals for the Probate, County, and other Courts, which seals are now in use; during the Civil War, [p.592] Mrs. Williams was at the head of the Christian Commission; |
