Mary was the daughter of John R. Blount and Louisa Irvine (or Irvin). Her grandmother was Hester (Shankland) Blount.

 "John R. Blunt was born in Nicholas County October 24, 1827 and is a son of William and Hettie (Shankland) Blunt... January 20th, 1850 he married Louisa Irvin, daughter of Jetson and Polly (Leggett) Irvin.Four children have blessed this union, three of whom are living, viz: F.  "June 9, 1896: John R. Blount died at home in Grassy Lick from Flux, age 69. Born in Nicholas Co., Oct. 24, 1827.  Moved to this county Dec. 1873.  On Jan 20, 1850 he married Miss Louisa Irvine who with 2 children, Frank H and John H., survive. They had 4 children, W.K. died Jan 26, 1884 and Mrs. Mary L.
