Jackson is listed in the 1870 US Census (Kings Co, 7th Ward, Roll 949, M 593, p. 384) as a widow age 46 with children: Jacob, age 22 (deaf &blind), Frederick, age 19, clerk in a store, George, age 17, clerk in a store, Edward, age 13, attends school, Tilly, age 10, Ella, age 8 and Lizza, age 21. Lizza was married in June of this year. "Mary married George Ross on 27 May 1870 (NYC Municipal Archives, certificate # 1894). "Mary L. Ross is listed as a widow in the 1880 US Census in Cranford, Union Co., NJ, age 54 (sic) and born in NY. Also listed : Jacob S. Jackosn, son, age 34(sic), born in NY; Edward O. Jackson, son, age 23, born in NY; Tillie R. Jackson, daughter, age 20, born in NY and Ella D.C. Jackson, daughter, age 18, born in NY. "Several Mary Jacksons, all widows, are listed in the Brooklyn City directory from 1876-1879. It is impossible to tell whether or not any of these is Mary L. (Anthony) Jackson. There are also a number of George Ross entries during these and later years. Mary L. Ross, widow of George, is listed in the 1885 Brooklyn City directory as living with Edward O. Jackson at 35a Prospect Place. "On 11 Mar 1885 the widow of Edward Jackson deeded land to Edwin R. Sheridan (Kings Co, Liber 1595: 333 & 1596:227). "Mary's date of birth and death are from her gravestone in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY which reads: Mary L. Ross b. 20 June 1820 d. 27 May 1886. She died in Bellmore, NY; death cert # 614/12958 (Bellmore and NYS) of apoplexy and paralysis. "The year of death for Mary Louise (Anthony) Jackson is also provided in a biography of Frederick Way Jackson, her son, in The Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens Counties of Nassau and Suffolk by Henry Isham Hazelton."
