!BIR-MAR-DEATH: George Bortner of Codorus Twp., York Co., PA and His Descendants; by Charles H. Glatfelter; 1949; pp. 122-123 OBITUARY: An unsourced obituary states - MARTIN C. BORTNER STICKS Sept 6. Many relatives and friends on Sunday attended the funeral of Martin C. Bortner, retired farmer, who died at the home of his son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Ammon S. Bortner. After brief services at the Ammon S. Bortner home at 1:30 p.m. concluding obsequies were held at Stone Church which was nearly filled. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. K. S. Ehrhart, pastor of the Jefferson Lutheran charge, officiated, being assisted by his father, the Rev. W. H. Ehrhart, pastor emerius of the same charge, and the Rev. Dr. Paul D. Yoder, pastor of the Jefferson Reformed charge. The pallbearers were Monroe Hedrick, Adam Kaltreider, George Grote, Henry Albright, Robert Hamme and William B. Miller, all members of the Men's Adult Bible class of Stone Church Sunday School. Another obituary reads - MARTIN BORTNER, RETIRED FARMER, DIES NEAR STICKS Sticks, Sept 1. -- Martin C. Bortner, retired farmer, died at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ammon S. Bortner, Glen Rock R.D. 1, near here, this afternoon at 2:15 o'clock. Death was caused by a heart condition. He had been bedfast for the past eight weeks. He was aged 84 years six months and 25 days. He was a member of the Lutheran charge at Stone church, near Glenville. He was also a life-long resident of this section. Surviving him are: Two children, Mrs. James A. Wentz, Lineboro, Md; Ammon S. Bortner, Glen Rock R.D. 1; four sisters, Mrs. John Hale, Cornwall, PA; Mrs. Kate Bortner, Brodbeck; Mrs. Diannah Meckley, Lima, Ohio; Mrs. Belinda Deveney, Marion, Ind,; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the late home at 1:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, with concluding services in the Stone church, near Glenville, Rev. K. S. Ehrhart will be the officiating minister, assisted by his father, Rev. William H. Ehrhart, a former pastor of the Lutheran charge of which Stone church is a member. Burial will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Funeral Director G. W. Geiple and Son, Glen Rock, has charge of arrangements. (Belinda wrote 1937 at top of above article)
