  20. "MARTHA GILLANDER RITTER-- She was born near Dublin, Ireland, August 5,1832 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Greeno in Salemtwp., Steuben County, Indiana, July 21st 1912, aged 79 years, 11 monthsand 15 days.
    She was educated and became a public school teacher and at the age of 17years she married JOHN ANDERSON and to this union was born one child,Jane. She with her husband and daughter came to the United Stated bysail boat consuming 45 days in the voyage. Then they made their home fora short time with her sister Mrs. Margaret Harpham, near Pleasan Lake,Ind. when her husband died Sept. 5, 1852.
    March 25, 1855 she married PHILIP RITTER and to this union were borneight children; Martha, Emma, Barbara, Theophilus, Lovina, Elmer, Philipand Orpha. Jane, Emm and Philip preceded her in death.
    Mr. Ritter also had three children by a former marriage; Henry, Mary andJacob. The deceased was a loving mother to these children as well as toher own. They lived on the old homestead near Mt. Zion until Mr. Ritterdied Jan. 7, 1898 since which time she has lived with her children.
    At the age of twelve years she became a Christian and she and herhusband were members of the Lake Valley U.B. Church. She leaves to mournher departure nine children, 27 grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildrenand a great, great granchild and a host of friends.
    Funeral services were held in Lake Valley U.B. Church July 23, 1912,E.B. Griffin officiating, assisted by Rev. D. Clark."
