Obituary from The Spirit Lake Beacon 12-12-1929
. . . Grandma Nicol. . . . Martha Emily Fletcher, youngest daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Jobe L. Fletcher was born near Galena, Illinois, on June 28, 1846 and passed away at Milford, Iowa on December 8, 1929. . . . She was married to Dr. W. S. Beers, in Chickasaw county, Iowa on January 2, 1866 and came to Dickinson county on June 20 of that year. . . . To this union was born four children, Carrie E., Mary Maude, Omar and Charles F. Beers, all of whom but the latter have gone on before. Dr. passed away on January 9, 1877.
On March 13, 1879, she was married to Robert B. Nicol in the Abbie Gardner Sharp log cabin at Arnolds Park. They made their home on the homestead in Westport township until about 1883, when they moved to Milford, which place has been home to her ever since. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Bessie Jones, of Ryegate, Montana; Mortimer E. of Reno, Nevada; Bertha Lintner, of Long Beach, California; and Ray B. of Milford. After the death of Mr. Nicol in January 1916, Mrs. Nicol made her home with her children, spending several years at the home of her oldest son, C. F. Beers.
Mrs. Nicol . . . . was a member of the local church for many years and a faithful attendant when physically able to do so. She was a member of Gloaming Chapter, No. 225, Order of the Eastern Star of Milford. . . .
She leaves to mourn her departure, besides her five children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, an aged sister, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. W. H. Kent of Nashua, formerly pastor here, had charge of the service, assisted by Rev. L. N. Moody, and the Easter Star service was in charge of the local chapter. Burial was made in the Okoboji cemetery.
