[flandrx-seeker.ged] Is Martha actually the daughter of one of Peter's sons? Suc h a case would certainly fit the censii better. 1850 census of the 11th Ward of New York City, New York County , New York, page 211 or 419 [both printed; penciled 178 became 3 78 became 421] dwelling 511, family 1469 Wm Morris Lisk, 18, Male, Clerk, born in New York Ellen, 15, Female, born in New York Emiley, 12, Female, born in New York, attended school during th e year Franklyn, 4, Male, born in New York, attended school during th e year family 1470 Wm Harsen, 35, Male, born in New York Mary "", 33, Female, born in New York Ed_d "", 12, Male, born in New York, attended school during th e year Elisha "", 9, Male, born in New York, attended school during th e year John "", 6, Male, born in New York, attended school during the y ear Emily "", 2, Female, born in New York family 1471 Maria Flandro, 20, Female, born in New York Harriett "", 22, Female, born in New York Cordelia "", 18, Female, born in New York Martha "", 14, Female, born in New York Susan "", 28, Female, born in New York Additionally, there's the following. I shall have to check th e dates of each... 1850 census for New Rochelle, Westchester County, page 179 [p357 ]: House 235, family 295 Isabella Flandrau, 38, female, New York William Ramsey, 50, male, No occupation, $5000 in property, bor n in Ireland Charlotte Hudson, 19, female, born in New York Pamelia Flandrau, 32, female, born in New York Martha Flandrau, 15, female, born in New York Jane Coleston, 50, female, born in Scotland Mary A. Coleston, 24, female, born in Scotland The question is, is Martha a last daughter of Peter Flandreau an d Letitia Dougherty, or a daughter of Benjamin and Isabella Flan dreau? She is mentioned in the estate file of Pamelia Flandrea u but not specifically as a sister. She's also mentioned as a n heir (residing in New Rochelle) in John N. Flandreau's 1878 es tate papers; his will would probably clarify matters. If alternatively she is Isabella and Benjamin's daughter and sh e really is 15 in 1850, then that implies she is a daughter fro m the first marriage -- could she be the same person as Charlott e Angevine Flandreau?!? For the time being, I am going to lis t her as a daughter of Peter and Letitia. Gred Stevens writes: "Martha Flandreau (b. approx. 1850) was a great-great grandmothe r on my mother's side of the family. I know nothing of her sibli ngs, but am certain she was a decendent of Jacques Flandreau, wh om you mentioned in one of your earlier emails. Martha marrie d Joseph Lambden. While he was away fighting the Civil War, sh e gave birth to a son, John, my great-grandfather. They had a to tal of 3 children, all boys, who later became prominent business men in New Rochelle." [For obvious reasons the 1850 birthdate doesn't make sense, an d I suspect it was a typo.] He later wrote: "I know that Martha Flandrau Married Joseph Lambden, and they ha d three male offspring: John (my g-grandfather), Eugene, and Edw ard. I don't know their order of birth, but some of their busine ss dealings are documented in the New Rochelle records. I wis h I had some documented information to send you on Martha hersel f. My maternal grandmother (maiden name Helen Lambden) now decea sed, had the family line researched years ago and it was confirm ed that Martha was a decendant of Jacques Flandreau. I don't kno w who did the research, and the only tangible item from this wor k is a typed 1/2 page report that looks like it was done in th e 1960's. Can't get my hands on that right now because of holida y schedules, but will try later. I do recall this report sayin g that Martha was active during the 1880's in preserving the Hug uenot legacy in New Rochelle. Freepages New York Marriages database: Flandreau, Martha L.
